DIY - Banana Bread

Earlier this week I had one of those mornings when nothing seems to be going right. No matter how fast I went, there was no way I was making it to work on time. As I'm leaving the house I realize I forgot my breakfast. Rushing, I run into the kitchen, grab my weekly bunch bananas and pull off one of the fresh, just ripe pieces. Carelessly placing the rest of them on the island, when I accidentally dropped them on the floor. I thought they'd be slightly bruised by the time I got home but still edible. I never thought the yellow fruit would be completely smashed and almost black.

I was mad and I tweeted about. I know, it's petty, but hate wasting money and I like my daily dose of potassium lol.

Thanks to marciepry melliemel321 and  reneemca, who all suggested I take my bruised bananas and make banana-aid.. err, bread.
Anyone who knows me, knows I am *no* foodie. I can dig a little baking here and there, but have never attempted a bread. Not sure why I thought it was going to be difficult.. but I have to share this recipe because it was sooo easy and came out really well!

Ingredients
  • 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed   *I used 3 but will probably go with 5 next time*
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla.
  • Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in.
  • Mix in flour.
  • Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan.
  • Bake for 1 hour.
  • Cool and remove from pan.
  • Slice to serve.
Soo tasty! Thanks again, ladies!

BTP Tattoos and Piercings

The first time I went to BTP, I brought my friend Dani to get her rook done. I've always been a piercing girl and wanted to check out, what was then considered, the new guys on Lark. I soon wished I had went there for mine as the placement of her's came out much better.. not to mention the price was significantly less! The piercing was quick and came out great! We both left with a smile and a grape jolly rancher : )

Since my first visit, I've had my conch and eyebrow pierced there! Check out the pictures below of my piercings and Dani's rook done by Paul:

Whether giving or receiving, tattoos and piercings are not something people take lightly! The passion for it is undeniable throughout the industry, which seems really rare for a good amount of careers now. What really makes it one of a kind is the collaboration between the artist and the customer, and BTP is no exception with their individuality and expertise! The shop is very comfortable and prides itself on being a family establishment. They are currently made up of five professional, licensed artists, each with their own unique and creative style!

There are four amazing tattoo artists, Don, Kyle, Rhiannon and Travis, and one exceptional piercer, Paul. You can check out their facebook and myspace pages for some great examples of their work. Plus there are additional photo albums at the shop for samples. Since they're open 12pm - 10pm everyday, you can stop in anytime to speak with someone about what you're interested in!  Personalized portraits are even available if you speak with Travis!

I remember back when Escape had a second floor dedicated to their posters and hippy inspired threads, and can only be happy they decided it wasn't necessary after all.

If you're interested in more information, contact them via email at BTPtattoo@yahoo.com, phone (518) 860-0257‎, or stop by the shop at 302 Lark Street, 2nd floor.  Just make sure to bring cash as they currently do not except credit cards.

Upcoming: Rocky Horror Night!

The Palace theatre is showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Monday night at 7:00pm! The movie is only $5 (or $3 for kids).

The girls and I went last year and had *so* much fun! None of us had been before but we're now making it an annual event! The audience participation really adds to the fun!

So get your rubber gloves, rice and noise makers ready! Actually, here's the list of suggested items you might want to bring (according to www.rockyhorror.org):
  • Rice
  • Newspaper (preferably The Cleveland Plain Dealer.. or TU?)
  • Water Guns
  • Lighter/Flashlight (NOTE: lighters are banned at most theaters because of fire codes)
  • Glowsticks or your cellphone
  • Noise Makers (Groggers)
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Confetti (or torn-up newspaper) <==discouraged at some shows (it sticks to the floor when wet)
  • Toilet Paper
  • Toast
  • Bells (or keys)
  • Playing Cards
  • Condoms...hey, you never know.
Plus there were tons of people dressed up last year so don't be shy! Hope to see you there!

Melodic Sounds of Earl Greyhound

Earl Greyhound was scheduled to open for Shooter Jennings on Tuesday, 10/20 at Revolution Hall. My friends and I have been looking forward to seeing them since the show was announced a few months ago. Unfortunately the show was cancelled the day off (boooo). No doubt due to poor ticket sales being that it was a Tuesday and that they were opening for Jennings.

Hopefully they'll be touring more and we'll have change to check them out sometime. They'd be a great band for one of the city's summer concerts (wink, wink)!

DIY - Henna 2

Second attempt and new design in the Henna process!

We found that placement works better on the bottom of the arm and hand. Not only does it not rip the hair out of your skin after it dries, but it last about four days longer than on the reverse side!
